Oklahoma Has a Tremendous Substance Abuse Problem
Video Transcribed: You have a substance abuse problem. DHS has taken your kids and you want help. What do you do? Oklahoma Child Protective Services Attorney Ryan Cannonie, with CPS investigation defense. And this is a situation I saw repeat for years over, and over, and over again. Oklahoma has a tremendous substance abuse problem. And a lot of times it’s not the person’s fault that they’re in the situation they’re in.
They’ve self-medicated due to any number of other things going on in their lives. Most people don’t start up here. You start down here. And then, slowly, over time you just kind of lose control. And it’s really hard to pick yourself back up again from that point.
So, when you’re in a deprived court situation, DHS has taken your kids, they’re wanting to terminate your parental rights because of your substance abuse problems, but you want help. What do you do?
Well, if you are in a court case, there are some options available to you for rehabilitative treatment.
Now, having an attorney that can talk to DHS, get that rehab set up for you, and then, not only that but go into court and advocate on your behalf while you’re not there, while you’re at treatment, you’re doing what you’re supposed to, go in there and make sure that the court, the judge is hearing that, yeah, you’ve got three more months. Yeah.
That sounds like a lot of a long time, but three months in a person’s life, in a child’s life, there’s no math to that. That, if you can complete this treatment and get back, then you can be a great parent. And you can do everything that DHS wants you to be able to do for your kids. And you can do it without having the crutch of substance abuse.
Being able to have someone in your corner, fighting in court to make sure that they give you a fair chance is what being an attorney for a parent is all about.
If you want someone like that if you need someone in your corner who is going to help you, not only in court but to try to find options, to help you kick this issue that’s causing the problem, then give us a call.
We can look over your case, offer a consultation, and maybe be able to help you or a family member, if they’re in this situation and you are reaching out for them, to try to get some help and try to get your kids back and get your life going the way you want it to be, give us a call and we will have an Oklahoma CPS attorney reach you.
