You Need an Attorney That Knows More Than Just Deprived Law
Video Transcribed: “It was all very Sandusky-like, you know like Jerry Sandusky.” Those words were actually said by a parent on the stand during a show cause hearing. Hello, my name is Ryan Cannonie, I’m an DHS investigation attorney with the CPS Investigation Law office. And if you’re confused about what a show cause is there’s another video describing that type of hearing.
In over seven years of prosecuting both Oklahoma criminal cases and Oklahoma deprived cases I had never seen anything like it. That person, that parent, actually had an attorney but the Oklahoma attorney did not caution them against testifying, did not prep them for the hearing, did not let them know what was going to be said, how it was going to be said, and get them on a basis where they could adequately present their side.
Now that father got a different attorney and at that point he had stated that he was ignorant about what Jerry Sandusky was actually accused of. Now this was pretty early on into the scandal and he just thought it was allegations made against him, that nothing had been proven, and that he was trying to say that he was also being accused unfairly.
Now even though he maintained his innocence, and ignorance of that statement, throughout his entire case it was used for years trying to terminate his parental rights. It ruined his marriage, ruined his relationship with his child. And, in the end, was brought up again and again against him.
Now if you have an attorney that knows deprived law that is great. But if you have an attorney that knows not only deprived law but when a person should and shouldn’t testify, and how to make sure they’re going to testify in a way that fully gets their point-of-view across, fully gets the truth across, then that’s the type of attorney you need in a deprived case. And that’s the type of CPS attorney we have at our firm. So if you are finding yourself in a deprived situation please give us a call.
